Below is a calendar that showcases events important to our sport. You’ll find Dig Pink events along with major volleyball tournaments and conventions. If you would like to add your event(s) to the calendar, please email.
AVP Seattle Open
Seattle is synonymous with coffee, but fans will get their jolt from some intense action in this tournament which will conclude the first half of the eight-event schedule. The competition on the courts will be quite a contrast to the serene setting along the shores at Lake Sammamish. As eagles soar in the background, players will be competing knowing that in the last two years the AVP has played here, there have been three different players tally their first ever AVP victories in Seattle.
AVP San Francisco Open
One of four tournaments held in the state of California, the San Francisco event is unlike the other three. As opposed to the deep sands on the natural beaches in Southern California, this competition takes place on a pier with the scenic Bay Bridge looming overhead. Although last year’s event ended a six-year hiatus from San Francisco, the past three years have all been won by players who have competed in the Olympics. In this event, the cream of the crop always seem to rise.
AVP Hermosa Beach Open
Hermosa Beach may border Manhattan Beach geographically, but there is no doubt that each city has its own identity and history. In the AVP’s inaugural season (1984), there was an event in Hermosa Beach, but not Manhattan Beach. Also, NBC’s first ever telecast of beach volleyball (in 1990) took place at the Hermosa Beach event. Every year from 1984 through 2010, Hermosa Beach was a cornerstone in the AVP schedule, but not since then has there been an AVP event. Appropriately, Hermosa Beach falls right next to Manhattan Beach on the 2018 schedule.
AVP Chicago Open
No city outside the state of California has hosted more pro beach tournaments than Chicago, which will add one more to its tally when the 2017 AVP season concludes. Fittingly just as the summer closes on Labor Day, so too does this year’s AVP schedule, and what a way to end it! Chicago has consistently had packed stands and fierce competition with the Chicago skyline serving as a picturesque backdrop.
